Be who you Are:
I think one of the themes, is to be who you are, and to not let others decide for you. Stargirl who was homeschooled, now goes to a school, where everyone is the same, with pretty much no differences, no individuality. On Stargirls first day at school she wore a long dress, and brought a ukulele with her, she sung someone Happy Birthday, she sung to a complete stranger.
At first everyone thought this was a joke, she was a joke. But as time goes on, she stays the way she is, not embarrassed by the whispered conversations about her. Hillari, one of the most popular girls in school's birthday was coming up. She warned Stargirl not to sing to her. On page 28 it says, It was Hillari's name at the end of the song, but true to her word from yesterday, she did not sing it to Hillari- she sang it to me.

Be Yourself:
I think one reason we are not always ourselves, is because of ourselves. We are afraid other people won’t like us for who we are, so we wear what everyone else wears, talk how everyone else talks or just are not who we are because we are afraid of being teased.
Stargirl does not seem to care. She knows, or at least we think she knows, that everyone else thinks she’s weird. Most people would change a little if it’s their first day and they realize that no one likes them, but Stargirl doesn’t care what they think, she does not care about her problems, but knows and tries to help everyone else with their problems.

Never Judge a Book by it's cover:
This is one of the temes because on the first day stargirl was there everyone judged her said she was weird and held a grudge. Unlike Leo he waited and he was able to the real Stargirl and he feel in love. If everyone else waited like Leo they would have seen the real Stargirl.

Conflicts
Person vs Person
This would be a conflict because Stargirl had to go through many people calling her names, making fun of her and making unfare guesses about her. Some of the people also tryed to make her feel bad and make her want to leave Mica. Also during th e dance Hillari smacked Stargirl.
Person vs. Socitie:
This is a conflict in the novel because Stargirl doesn't fit in to her surroundings. At her School what she does and what she wears is considered weird. They often called her weird and made fun of her. People try to change her and make her what they think is normal.
